Fluff & Fold Laundry Service Available During Coronavirus Crisis

Fluff & Fold Laundry Service Available During Coronavirus Crisis

March 25, 2020

Dear Valued Customers,

We are all in this coronavirus situation together. We hope everyone is healthy, safe and secure.  Margaret¹s is making adjustments to our policies to best serve our valued customers during these troubling times. We know most of our customers generally have a home staff to assist with general laundry that is sometimes referred to as Fluff & Fold (F&F).

Why Fluff & Fold and How Much Does It Cost?
Margaret¹s does not typically offer Fluff & Fold service, however we have been informed by many of our customers that for the time being they are without or operating with a minimal home staff and asked if we could help with laundry.  Thus, we have made adjustments and are gladly offering a Fluff & Fold service temporarily. Because we have less labor, processing costs and packaging involved, Fluff & Fold is priced substantially less than Margaret’s typical pricing. Please just ask for a price list.

What items are included in Fluff & Fold?
Typical items for Fluff & Fold include your regular laundry items most often done at home including towels, under garments, bathrobes, bathmats, warmup suits and daily wear garments such as shorts, jeans, t-shirts, and sweatshirts.

What items aren’t appropriate for Fluff & Fold?Clothing you normally dry clean is not included in this service including designer clothing and items constructed of fine fabrics such as silk, cashmere, wool, etc.

What processes are and aren’t done with Fluff & Fold?
Appropriate items will be steamed to minimize any wrinkles; however there will be no pressing. Imagine that your household staff has washed and dried items at home and then carefully folded the items to be put in your bureau drawers or closet shelving. Now the washing, drying and folding is temporarily done by Margaret’s laundry team and home delivered for you folded and ready to wear.

We have added additional virus safety protocols beyond typical Fluff & Fold service to assure effective treatment.

  • For articles presumed to be unaffected, there is a 24 hour staging wait-time prior to beginning processing, providing a time for any possible virus to expire.
  • The drying temperature and times are closely monitored to be well within the effective range as recommended by the CDC.
  • Where appropriate, sanitizing agents are added to the chemistry.
  • In the case of bedding (the items of most concern) an additional step of dry cleaning is performed in addition to laundry to assure the highest degree of effective remediation.
  • Each customer’s items are processed individually. Only one customer¹s items are put in a machine at a time.
  • Customers who have members in their home with coronavirus must notify Margaret’s ahead of time. Additional safety protocols based on CDC information include a five-day quarantine prior to opening bags as well as a two-week turnaround.

Please let us know if you have any additional needs that we can assist with.  We will do our best to accommodate you.

Margaret’s Cleaners Response to Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Margaret’s Cleaners Response to Coronavirus (COVID-19)

To Our Valued Customers,

With the news of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) spreading, we want to proactively share details about our cleaning procedures for handling viruses and bacteria at Margaret’s Cleaners and the steps we are taking to ensure the safety of our customers and staff.

To help prevent the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19, we are closely monitoring and following the guidelines and recommendations on personal hygiene and cleaning standards set in place by the World Health Organization (WHO) and Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Dry Cleaning and Laundry Institute (DLI).

We want to assure you that our cleaning processes are effective against viruses and our claim is backed by the CDC who advised that the dry cleaning process is effective on viruses. Our processes are above the temperature needed to inactivate viruses, which is 160 degree Fahrenheit according to the World Health Organization. As an added measure, all washed and laundered items will be processed with an additional dry cleaning step providing the higher temperature as an added assurance for virus mitigation. This added dry cleaning step with laundry is already part of our arsenal and often utilized to remove grease and oils when laundry processes alone prove to be insufficient. This proven technique adds no associated risk for cleaning, but does add assurance for virus control.

We have always maintained high standards for hygiene and sanitation, and as an extra precautionary measure, we have increased the frequency of cleaning our stores, counter tops, delivery vehicles and other surfaces in all Margaret’s locations. We will continue to monitor the situation, adjust our cleaning processes as needed, and update you on our proactive response plan accordingly.

We do not want to spread fear, but rather reassure you that we are here to make sure your clothing and household textiles are disinfected and sanitized.

At Margaret’s Cleaners, nothing is more important than ensuring the health and wellness of our customers and staff. We appreciate you putting your trust in us for your dry cleaning, laundry and other garment care needs and we look forward to serving you at your next visit.

Please feel free to contact us with any questions and may you and your family and friends stay healthy.

Thank you,

Are Your Sweaters Ready for Sweater Season?

Are Your Sweaters Ready for Sweater Season?

Clothes need to breath, especially knits and leathers. Avoid overcrowding your closets. Crowded closets with minimal airflow and dark spaces can promote mildew growth and create nesting places for insect larvae to feed on fabric. Worn and stained clothing provide a homing signal for insects. Consider donating, reselling or utilizing off-site storage such as Garde Robe, to free up space in your closet, as discussed in the “Long-Term Storage” section in this newsletter.

It is doubly important that items be stain-free before returning them to the closet. Recent or fresh stains may be easy to remove, however soiled items returned to the closet may not be discovered for months. This makes stain removal difficult and sometimes impossible. Carefully inspect the item for soil in good lighting before storing. Be sure to have stained garments cleaned before returning them to the closet.

Hang all recently worn items to dry before placing them back into your closet. Fabrics retain moisture and it may take a day or two for them to dry to the relative humidity in the house. Leather and suede garments can retain excessive amounts of moisture and can take up to three days to dry out. However, do not accelerate the drying process with a hairdryer or by placing in a dryer. Let the garment give up its moisture naturally. Do not expose items to direct sunlight as excessive exposure to UV light can be detrimental to the garment as well.

Fold and shelve knits to help them keep their shape. This is particularly important for seasonal and long-term storage. Knits hung under their own weight suffer from the unequal distribution of support by hangers. This can cause distortion and result in a garment that no longer retains its original fit.

We recommend the breathable sweater bag (pictured), first introduced to the dry cleaning industry by Margaret’s Cleaners. This unique invention provides a breathable environment for knits and also creates a barrier to prevent insect damage. The bag has a window for quick identification of the garment.

Use the proper hanger for knits that are hung for short-term storage. A padded or broad shoulder hanger will prevent the telltale “rabbit’s ear” signature of a wire hanger. Clip hangers for skirts provide better support than safety pins. Folding a long dress at the waist over a suit strut hanger may be easier on the knit than hanging from the shoulder.

Sweater bags by Margaret's CleanersNever store clothing in plastic bags. The poly bags from the dry cleaner are great for packing in wardrobe bags for travel and the vinyl zip-up bags from department stores are convenient for travel. However, neither provide breathability, and plastics can outgas, resulting in fume fading or yellowing of the garment. Store all your finest garments in zip or snap-closure breathable bags. A variety of bags perfectly suited for storage is available from Margaret’s Boutique Wardrobe Products. The ideal storage bag is breathable, has no digestible protein for insect consumption, has a zipper or snap closure, and a transparent window, so that the contents can be seen without opening the bag. As previously discussed in the “Wearing” section of this newsletter, be absolutely sure leather and suede items are completely dry before placing them in the closet for seasonal or long-term storage.
